Lantau is a half-hour ferry ride away from Hong Kong's central piers or a quick Airport Express ride away from Hong Kong's Central MTR station. It hosts the airport but also has many beautiful natural sites. The best beach is Pui O, which is still uncrowded but has great views on the surrounding mountains and fresh water. For the hikers there are nice trails running throughout the island, with the pinacle being the trail leading up to the Ngong Ping monastery and sitting Buddha.
